Powerless

The only thing that doesn't confuse me about this situation here in the US, is that there is very little I can do about this except vote and the one thing I do understand and I think is agreed upon on both sides, this whole mess is a result of a failed ecomomic policy that we have had for a very long time all the way to Reagan and the trickle down theory...one that is thought by its proponents to be "fundamentally sound". The only thing I see trickling down is greed. I don't understand why we can't just sieze the assets of these CEO's (our Treasury Secretary included) who has profited at the taxpayers expense over say the last 5 years and fix it that way. Just like they sieze the assets of drug dealers and kingpins. Except their drug is greed which I think in the end is far more dangerous to our world than any substance could ever be. At least Obama sees the big picture and with that I can still have hope that things can change.

Another thing I have no control over, my sponsee who went out and used Sunday. I am learning to detach so that I can still help her if she wants help. And that's the bottom line. But I'm still new at this and though better than I was, its still painful. I'll keep my hand out but its up to her to grab it and as long as someone grabs it, then I'm doing what I need to stay sober for myself. Hopefully I will be able to distinguish between enabling and helping as far as she is concerned. I guess that's what my sponser is for and thankfully I will be meeting with her today.

LOVE LOVE LOVE your pic of today. I see the 'american dream' as more of an 'american sickness'.. materialism and greed and the unconscious need for more and more and more. never fulfilled. ah well. whatdoiREALLYknow. something has seemed off based for some time now. Rabbi Schmooley (or whatever his name is) called it a 'spiritual crisis' - not just a financial crisis.

and the sponsee thing? - god love you for sponsoring others. i'm too chicken shit to attempt sponsoring at this point.

i was listening to an eckhart (YES i am addicted to his teachings) 'teacher series' DVD the other day. it is for preparing others to teach but something he said reminded me of sponsoring:

*2 dangers about teaching (or in our case sponsoring)
1. you think 'i'm not ready' and 'i don't know enough' and/or 'i'm not quite there yet'.. the 'not yets'
2. 'i'm FINALLY ready to teach' (sponsor)

he said the TRUTH of it is: 'you're not ready nor do you need to be ready'.. and 'you're never really ready to teach (sponsor)'. Some wait he says, feeling 'there's still something i haven't learned yet and it is called the 'secret of the universe' and i am still working on it.'

he said 'it is good to feel that you are not ready and completely accept not knowing the answers'

my sponsor isn't surprised when anyone 'goes out' prior to step 9 (i think that is what he said).. may be something we get used to perhaps.

you do the best you can and let the world think of it what it will. and if i know YOU, i am VERY sure you are doing the best you can. that's all any of us can do really. !!

I'm with you on the American greed that infiltrates through businesses. I'm with Obama and am looking forward to voting with the hope that people will want change and not more of the same for the next administration.

I'm sorry that your sponsee went out. You've done what you could to carry the message but the person has to be willing to hear it.

I read your blog and know that you lean left so I will start by saying my comment here is not about blame. The exact nature of this mess is not rooted in an entire economic policy. It is rooted in a government program trying to be a vehicle for social change without regard to economic principles. You may hate me for this but I offer the link below to give you an alternate source for information. These are pretty good explanations. I am not saying there is no fault on the right, what I am saying is we all need to make sure our leaders and those who influence them realize that social change coupled with government through legal mandate equals socialism which leads to tyranny which destroys the American Dream. http://www.ibdeditorials.com/series11.aspx I still have faith in this country and every person's right to pursue the American Dream.

I'm so sorry to hear about your sponsee. I can't even imagine how that must feel for you.

Would you believe my parents actually think Reagan was our last decent prez? And they're from Massachusetts! It's so embarrassing. My dad's been voting mostly republican for awhile. 'Course he a big business finance guy liking the loose regulation by the fed. And they're in That tax bracket.

I think I've mentioned my parents are a little, ah, oh.... Nevermind. They found me in the cabbage patch.
